Xcel Energy Inc is a public company which began operations in 1990 directed from its headquarters based in Minneapolis, Minnesota, United States. Xcel Energy is an electricity and natural gas company runs its operations through its four subsidiaries including Northern States Power Wisconsin, Northern States Power- Minnesota, Southwestern Public company, and Public Service company of Colorado.
Xcel Energy generates about 7,697 Megawatt Electricity as the company has 13 coal plants, all are based in the Colorado state of the United States. Apart from this, the company is prominent provider of Wind power. As per the report of American Wind Energy Association, Xcel is among the largest companies in the United States generating wind power. The company possess Three wind power generating farms. In Wisconsin and other two U.S. States: Minnesota, Colorado, Xcel has 27 hydroelectric power stations which generate about 500 megawatts electricity. To fulfill electricity requirement, sometimes the company takes electricity support from Manitoba Hydro, a Canadian natural gas and electric power company. Moreover', the company also uses biomass electricity which major source is forest harvest waste material. Xcel generates over 110 megawatts biomass electricity which is generated in its Northern Minnesota and Western Minnesota Power plant. Xcel has two nuclear plants which are meant for the fuel storage, first is Monticello Nuclear Generation Plant based in Monticello, Minnesota, and other one is Prairie Island Nuclear Generating Plant, based in Red Wing, Minnesota etc.
