What is NSDL?
NSDL stands for National Securities Depository Limited, which is a central securities depository. It was setup in 1995, operates from Mumbai, India. Institutions of National Stature promotes this depository which is also responsible for economic development of the country. The company started operation in November, 1996 to establish infrastructure for international standards to handle all securities held. The century old capital market of India that had to face bad delivery and delayed transfer of the title, and thus there was the need to setup depository which is fast and reliable.
NSDL Operations
NSDL was the first depository in the country which owns all international standards to handle most of the securities.
Nsdl is known for its ensured, safety and quality services in Indian marketplaces by developing settlement solutions that reduce risk and costs too. The company offers various services to investors and participants. These services include clearing members, stock exchanges, issuing of securities. Moving toward the other value added services of the company, the company offers electronic custody and trade settlement service; some special service are pledge, hypothecation of securities, automatic delivery of securities for the clearance of corporation, distribution of cash and non cash corporate benefits.
