BT or BT Group is the British Telecom company carrying operations at worldwide level. The company is based in London, UK and has the strength of over 87,000 employees. The origination of the BT is linked with the companies Pioneer in the telecom business in the UK. Electric Telegraph was one of them which was founded in 1846. With the passage of time, these companies were acquired or defunct and the remaining were come under the control of the General Post Office of the UK to form British Telecom. The GPO had the monopoly in telecom services in the UK after the acquisition of many companies. In 1930's many demands were raised to convert the Post Office from government department. In 1969, the Post Office was incorporated as public corporation through the Post Office Act of 1969. In 1981, the telecommunication division was renamed as British Telecom. The British Government decided to hand over British Telecom into the private hands by selling its 50 percent of shares. By 1993, the British Government sold its remaining shares. British Telecom adopted a new name, BT in 1991. BT entered into partnership with US based Mci Communication Corporation in 1994 which provide global network both of the companies. After privatization, it had a joint venture with Telecom Securicor Cellular Radio to launch Cellnet. Cellnet was purchased by BT from Securicor and renamed it as BT Cellnet.
BT has adopted various logos since its formation. The first one was in T symbol followed by the “person with the piper” from 1991 to 2003. Its third logo has been created in the theme of “Connected World”. The headquarters of the company is housed in BT center, a ten story building sits at Newgate, London.
