Target Stores is a Private Limited Australian based departmental store chain and a subsidiary of Wesfarmers Group. The big consolidation took place in 1926 between Fosseys and Target. The Fosseys is owned by Alfred Bristow Fossey and this merger helps to grew to 184 stores throughout Australia which in-turn provides the annual profit of $300 million. Later in 1996, Coles Myer merged with the Fosseys and Target, redesigning the stores to focus on rural areas of Australia.
In 1926, George Lindsay and Alex McKenzie opened their first store selling fabrics, Manchester and furnishings goods in Victoria. The chain of 14 stores was later acquired by Myer Emporium Ltd in 1968 and was re-invented as a discount departmental store and renamed Lindsay's Target Pty Ltd. In March 1973, it was renamed Target Australia Pty Ltd. The business methodology of the Target was 'half the profit, twice the turnover'.
