St. Elizabeth is a healthcare facility located in Whitby, Ontario, Canada. The hospital provides advanced home and community based healthcare in Canada and also provides a full range of integrated care solutions to the people of Canada. The hospital is named after the St. Elizabeth of Hungary who spent her life to help the poor and sick people.
History
St. Elizabeth was established in the year 1908 as St. Elizabeth Visiting Nurse’s Association of Ontario. At the time of its establishment, the hospital had a staff of four nurses that mostly provided prenatal and pediatric care by visiting the homes of patients either by foot or by streetcar. The Saint Elizabeth was the first hospital in Ontario to provide the community based care to the people suffering from HIV/AIDS. It was also the first hospital of its kind to provide the chemotherapy in home for the treatment of cancer and this service was started in the year 1997. The hospital also partnered with other pediatric hospitals in Toronto to start the Electronic Child Health Network.
