Dear Mr. Anderson,
I just finished reading your piece titled "Fractured Lands" in The New York Times Magazine. Even though there are continuous coverage of the Middle East in the news media, to have the past events consolidated into one account and to have the lives of the individuals chronicled helped me better understand how the chaos in the Middle East started. I did not realize it was the fall of Iraq which triggered the tumult. Thank you for a great piece of documentary. It is very sad to know that so many lives have been lost or how the future of a generation of children and young adults has been destroyed. Amid the destruction, it is comforting to hear of Khulood al-Zaidi's selfless devotion to her father and sisters and of Majd Ibrahim's ultimate success in settling in Germany. I am especially touched by Khulood's love for her family. In today's world, filial piety appears to be a virtue that is becoming extinct. I do not know if you are still in touch with her and her sister as they adjust to life in Austria. I would like to send her some money, just my way of showing moral support and to let her know that I admire and am inspired by what she did for her family in the face of great adversity for herself. My home address is entered in the above box. My email address is margaretchow2@gmail.com. I look forward to your reply. Thank you,
Margaret Chow .
