What is Salter?
Salter Housewares, also known as Salter, is a UK based company that manufactures and distributes a wide variety of consumer weighing scales and accessories. The company has offices in various countries including United Kingdom, Canada, United States, Australia, New Zealand, Hongkong, Singapore, UAE, Chile, Kenya, Portugal and Malaysia. It operates as a subsidiary of an American personal wellness products manufacturer, HoMedics. Salter started life from Bilston, UK in the year 1760. Its business started with the manufacturing of the countries first spring scales by the founder, Richard Salter. In 1825, George, Salter's nephew, acquired the company, who changed its name to the George Salter and Company and shifted the business to West Bromwich. After that, the company expanded and started manufacturing coin-operated machines, typewriters, potato chippers, mincers and irons. In March 2004, the operations of the company were acquired by the HoMedics.
