What is Rcn?
RCN or Residential Communications Network offers the triple play services including cable TV, telephone and Internet access. It is headquartered in Princeton, New Jersey and provides its services in the regions of Boston, Easter Pennsylvania, Washington, D.C, Chicago etc. RCN is one of the largest providers of Internet access services in the USA with the customers base of 3.8 million people. The company has the workforce of over 1,300 people. RCN delivers its services over the optic fiber network to the General customers and businesses.
RCN was founded in 1993 by David McCourt and Peter Kiewit Sons Incorporation. It acquired MFS, CTEC, and some divisions of MFS. Its partnerships with electric utility companies helped it to pass its cable lines on their poles. In 1998, RCN acquired several major Internet service provider and Telecom companies resulted in its immense growth. It took over Erol's Internet, Interport, UltraNet Communications, JavaNet and Interport in east coast. RCN owned DNAI and Brainstorm to consolidate its position in West Cost. The acquisition of 21st Century Telecom was the move to set up its business in regions of Chicago.
In 2006, it acquisition covers Con Edison Communications, which was known for its fiber optic network. In 2007, the acquisition of NEON Communication granted RCN the possession of fiber optic network covering twelve states and resulted in the renaming of RCN Business Solutions as RCN Metro Optical Networks. RCN launched its HD services and high speed Internet services in 2008. In 2010, RCN was acquired by ABRY Partners.
RCN provides TV content in HD and digital format through its DVR. It has listed various channels of genre like sports, film, kids, news etc. RCN also offers Video on Demand of over 2,000 hours. It delivers Internet services over fiber optic networks and has the speed upto 110 Mbps. Its Internet services also provides email accounts, Wi Fi and online content streaming. RCN offers various packages for its phone services including unlimited calling, international calling and other calling features. Its also provides its services in bundle pack.
