In its starting period, the company worked as computer adviser and supporter and also sold cell-phones and accessories and later the PC repair and upgradation services were added by the company to its portfolio. The internet service providing was started by the company in the year 1997 with three dial -in 33.6k modems.
Orcon was purchased by a state-owned telecommunication company known as Kordia in June 12, 2007. Later the company was sold by Kordia to a Warren Hurst's business group on April 2013. CallPlus bought the company in June 2014. The company is also considered as the New Zealand's first internet service provider which provided ADSL2+ commercially after it had launched its ADSL2+ service in March 2008. Fiber as a part of the Ultra-Fast Broadband was also provided by the Orcon for the first time in New Zealand. A Smartphone app named Genius Go was launched by the company in June 2013, which helped the customers to make or receive landline calls through their smartphones from anywhere in the world.
