What is MTO Kingston?
MTO Kingston is the regional office of the Ministry of Transportation of Ontario (MTO) that works under the government of Ontario to manage the road transportation system. The Ministry of Transportation of Ontario operates its Three head offices at different locations such as Downsview, Queen's Park and St. Catharines. It also has a network of regional offices to control the operations of provincial highway network and also operates many area offices. The department is engaged to plan, design, construct and maintain the road for systematic flow of transportation.
History
MTO started its journey with the establishment of Department of Highways to make a provincial highway network in the year 1916. The Department of Northern Development (DND) was introduced in the mid-1920s to control the developments of transportation systems in northern Ontario. On 1st of April 1937, the Department of Northern Development collaborates with the Department of Highways (DOH) and in 1972, it was known as Ministry of Transportation and Communications (MTC). The Ministry of Transportation was established in 1987 and it is also responsible for registering vehicles and issuing driving licenses.
MTO Responsibilities
The Ministry of Transportation (MTO) has responsibility to issue driving license after examined and has 15 types of licenses which are categorized into different classes like, A, B, E, G1, G2, M2, M2 with condition L and many others. The eligible individuals can apply for driving license after showing
Identity proof and other necessary documents. MTO also manages the registration process of vehicles and issues green paper permit and license plates after the inspection of vehicles. The department has authority to issue personalized license plates and also provides more than 60 graphics to choose for license plates. It offers different products and services for the commercial vehicle operators that are used in registration and license process such as, Commercial Vehicle Operators’ Registration (CVOR), Oversize/Overweight Permits, Check a company safety rating by CVOR number and many others.
