What is Iwo Jima Memorial?

The Iwo Jima Memorial in Virginia, United States is also known as Marine Corps War Memorial. The military memorial statue is placed outside the walls of the Arlington National Cemetery and besides the Netherlands Carillon, in Arlington Ridge Park, Arlington. The memorial is unveiled on 10 November 1954 and it was dedicated to all the martyrs of the United States Marine Corps who have died in the defense of their country since 10 November 1775. The massive sculpture was designed by Felix de Weldon. Felix was inspired by the iconic photograph of the raising of the second flag published by Associated Press photographer Joe Rosenthal. The sculpture highlights the six men who raised the second flag during the battle of Iwo Jima.
