History of Defense Logistics Agency
The agency laid its foundation on 31st of August 1961 as Defense Supply Agency by Secretary of Defense named Robert S. McNamara. The company commenced its operations on 1st January 1962 and operated six commodity-type and two service type single managers. With the expansion in services the agency covered the whole areas of the United States and supply food, clothing, weapon and other materials. On 1st of January 1997, the department reintroduced as Defense Logistics Agency from Defense Supply Agency.
Defense Logistics Agency Services
DLA supplies several military support services including clothing and textile, medical service, fuel, weapons, repair parts, construction and barrier equipment, uniforms and other consumable items. The agency supports approximately 2,400 weapon systems and operates more than 98,475 requisitions as well as above 9000 contract actions every day.
Operational Network
Defence Logistics Agency serves more than 6 million items through its nine supply chains and twenty five distribution centers situated in
48 states and 28 countries throughout the world. DLA also responsible for supporting disaster relief services. The company provides its services to the state and local government as well as other federal agencies.
