Brief History
Central Bank of India is believed to be the first bank in India which was owned and operated by Indians during the British rule. The bank was incorporated in 1911 by the efforts of Sir Sorabji Pochkhanawala with Sir Pherozeshah Mehta. It opened its door in 1918 in Hyderabad followed by the acquisition of the
Tata Industrial Bank in 1923. Central Bank of India opened its branch on English soil in 1936 in London as Central
Exchange Bank of India, which was owned by
