History
Capital Blue Cross came into existence as Capital Hospital Service by the Dauphin County Medical Society and the Harrisburg and Polyclinic Hospitals in 1938. Initially, it started prepaid hospital expense protection services to the residents of Harrisburg area. In 1965, Capital Hospital Service had been changed into Capital BlueCross. Within 30 years of inception, it set up business in 19 other counties. During 1985, Capital BlueCross shared services with the Blue Cross of the Lehigh Valley and started services in two new counties. In 2002, Capital BlueCross started health care coverage products to people in the Lehigh Valley and Central Pennsylvania.
